Stay Out of Iran What You Can Do The administration is making increasing preparations that threaten an invasion of Iran. We now know that the invasion of Iraq was a disaster based on lies, misinformation, and deception of the American public, and has had disastrous consequences for our country and the world. Invading Iran would be an even worse disaster. We must speak out against plans and preparations to take military action against Iran. Urge your representative to oppose war with Iran Urge congress to oppose any blockade on Iran: Oppose HCR 362! Urge your mayor to sign the Mayors' Resolution for Diplomacy with Iran Speak out about Iran! Here are some ideas about what you can do about Iran: Educate yourself about the facts. As a starting point, click here for some background information. Write a letter to the editor. Talk to your friends about how this looks just like what led us to attacking Iraq--without any analysis of the intelligence leading to a possible attack or any analysis of the extremely dire consequences of such an attack. Talk to groups you belong to--churches, clubs, coffee clatches--about how dangerous this is and how we should all speak out now, not after it's too late. Join vigils--There's one every Thursday 4:30-5:30 PM on Main St. plaza in Oneonta. There are others in Cooperstown, Norwich, Delhi, and Margaretville. Demand a public airing of the administration's Iran plans! This never
happened for Iraq. It must happen for Iran now!! Call your Senators to tell them that war with Iran would be foolish and disastrous. Ask them what they are doing to promote public debate about the quality of the intelligence about Iran and about the consequences of an attack on Iran. Do it respectfully, but they should know how outrageous the present situation is, where presidential candidates are trying to outdo each other about how aggressive they will be toward Iran. The Congressional switchboard is 1-202-224-3121. Sign petitions: Moveon.org has a petition asking Congress to require congressional authorization before taking military action in Iran, available here. AfterDowningStreet.org has a petition addressed to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and all U.S. military personnel urging them to refuse an illegal order to attack Iran, available here. You can read more and sign more petitions at www.petitiononline.com, www.iranpetition.org, www.stopwaroniran.org, and others if you do a Google search for "Iran petition"
