Meeting Notes
July 19, 2007

Present: Nick Albaugh, Stephan Seifried, Adrian Kuzminski, Paddy Lane , David Grodsky, Suzanne Miller, Walter vom Saal, Norman Erlichman, Sandra Twang, Ken Fogarty, Ed Rodriguez
Next Meeting: Tuesday, August 14th @ 6:00PM place to be announced.
Minutes from previous meeting: accepted.
Treasurer’s Report: Started June 1st with $2137.25 ended with $1074.75. We also spent $895.00 on ad in the Evening Sun which has not been subtracted from end total. The money that was taken in from donations for the Petition/Ad was equal to the money spent on placing the ads.
Brief Items:
Tabling at local Events
- discussed possibility of tabling at local events ; county fairs, Oneonta Grand and Glorious Garage Sale, New Berlin Youth Days
-The Otsego County Fair in Morris runs from July 31st thru August 8th
-Ed Lentz will call and see if tables are still available.
-Discussed that we would have two tables so any CFD work group wishing to participate would be able to.
-Norman Erlichman made a suggestion of offering food at our tables to spark people’s interest
-Contact work groups to see if interested. We will send out invitation on List serv with details.
Ongoing signature campaign for Petition
-decided we would like to continue the signature gathering campaign for petition with signatures being periodically sent to our Representatives.
-Walter vom Saal will alter the format of the Petition and post it on CFD web page for downloading. The language needs to changed a bit as it will no longer be used as an ad.
-there was some discussion though of running a half page ad in the Pennysaver with a web address for our website for viewing the names of all who signed.
-Ken Fogarty suggested an idea of blowing up our Ad/Petition to be used as a large prop at our tabling events. Ken will be creating this and we all can’t wait to see it.
-Paddy Lane would like to see a local Speak Out event.
Congressional Visits to Deliver Petition/Ad
Senator Clinton’s Office:
The group met with Tracy Brooks at City Hall , in Oneonta
The petitions were delivered and the group sat for quite some time discussing the demands of the petition and Senator’s Clinton’s position on the demands. There was no media coverage of the event. Paddy Lane composed and sent a letter to Senator Clinton as follow up which is posted at CFD‘s listserv. At the meeting Ms. Brooks was asked for written positions of Senator Clintons positions at the issues addressed in the Petition/Ad.
Iraq, Iran and Impeachment. Senator Clinton was asked to respond in 30 days. Her positions will then be placed in the local newspapers or lack there of.
Schumer Visit:
The members who met with Senator Schumer met with one of his aides in Binghamton office , Ken Fogarty reported. They were unable to meet with the aide that they wanted to and meet with an aide who was fairly new. Ken, reported that they went over the petition and that the aid took a lot of notes. Ken said he will do follow up on the Schumer visit.
Arcuri appointment to deliver Petitions:
Sandra Twang reported that she has faxed a schedule request to Arcuri’s scheduler Ms. Connie Woods, in the Utica office, requesting a visit with Rep. Arcuri to deliver the petitions . She was told that Ms. Woods would contact her within 10 days. Sandy will do follow up on this requested visit.
Impeachment
On the issue of impeachment a suggestion was made by Paddy Lane of the possibility of inviting a well versed speaker on Impeachment to our community and host an event on the subject. There was also a discussion of going to the Oneonta Common for a Resolution on Impeachment..HR333. A suggestion was also made of forming a committee on Impeachment.
Coalition for Democracy’s Draft Constitution
A motion was made to post CFD’s draft Constitution on the Listserv for member viewing and member comment and participation in the process adopting . The Constitution will be voted on at the next Coalition for Democracy general meeting. If at this time the Constitution is accepted we will move forward with the groups 501C4 status.
