Meeting Notes

Special meeting September 7, 2006

Present:  Nick & Leslie Albaugh, Alicia Pagano, Michael Kaufman, Waler vom Saal, David Cyr, Ed Lentz, Alice & Joe Richardson, Paddy Lane, Dave Grodsky, Dick & Betty Stinson.
Guests:  Dick Jorgenson (Norwich), Judge Elizabeth Garry (New Berlin)

Elizabeth Garry is running for NY State Supreme Court Justice in the 6th Judicial District.  This comprises 10 counties.  Elizabeth described why she wants to run for this office, why she admires the work of a justice.  The state supreme court works on business disputes, eminent domain issues, car accidents, etc.  She is not allowed to discuss issues.  Dick Jorgenson provided further descriptions of the esteem in which Eliz. Garry is held in her circles.  She is the only Democrat, in particular the only female who is running for this position.  She had been told all along that Democrats can't win in this area, and especially not women.

Campaigns:

The Green Party will be on the ballot this November

Kirsten Gillibrand's campign (20th CD) will have an office on Nain St. in Stamford.

Scott Trees is running for State Senate in Schoharie and a small portion of Otsego County.  He's an excellent candidate but is not getting support from mainline Democrats.

Novak's column shows 56% for Hillary, 44% for Tasini.

Michael Arcuri's website seems to have very carefully chosen language.  No fixed positions on things?

Candidate report card:  Much further discussion about this.  Paddy suggests a much shorter format which does not receive support.

Restore the Soul of America was discussed.  People suggested a speakout type of format for the meeting.

Healthcare Speakout - Wed., Sept 27, 6 PM, Elm Park Methodist Church.
