1) Friday, July 28- hearing on voting machines
at the Board of elections in Otsego County
What is to be done? Paddy will circulate info on the hearing and on a
prep session
The deadline for the board to make a decision for voting machines in
2007 is this October.
2) Treasury- Balance is $189.74
- No change in Balance since May
- Alice is not receiving Bank Statements; Ed said he would check to see
if he received statements and would ensure that mailing address is
changed so statements go directly to Alice
- Matter of Hartwick support for Heinberg lecture not yet resolved
3) May Minutes were approved.
4) Candidate Forum
- Tuesday, July 25, 7:00pm Red Dragon Thetaer, SUCO
- Each speaker speaks for five minutes
- take questions from audience
- Hand out index cards for questions
- One isle of the front row to be saved for V.I.P’s
5) Healthcare Forum
- postponed till early august
- could get call any day from presenters re: when they can come
6) Wood burning
- Planning Commission met on Wednesday to consider Catalyst Renewables'
proposal
- CR rep gave PowerPoint Presention- slick and substantial
- Many questions remain unanswered, including some not yet asked, e.g.: o
What is the plan for backup systems? What is the mean time to failure? What
are the emergency plans?
- Project will use 300,000 gallons of water and only return ten percent
of that.
- Still not clear when the State Environment Quality Review Act (SEQR)
process starts.
- Tax revenue- rumors are two million a year; this needs to be clarified.
- how much wear and tear will trucks put on our roadways?
- Apparently trucks will not use city roads, other than Country Club Rd.

-Catalyst Renewables- Forum at 7 o’clock
-Thursday, August 17th- Community Awareness Task Force
- CfD will co-sponsor
- Holding a Town Hall style meeting to share informaiton and open
community dialogue
- Universalist Unitarian Church- Ford Ave.- 7:30 PM
-CfD meeting will take place at Olympia-Brown House – 16 Ford Ave,
at 5:30
7) Sustainability Movement
- Small group met earlier in the evening to discuss initiating a drive
to encourage sustainable development
- Would invite participation of multiple groups, e.g., Audubon, OCCA,
CfD, etc.
- Would raise awareness of environmental issues and getting people involved.
- Could help craft a Regional Conservation and Sustainability Plan
Initial goal statement: Create a region-wide movement for a better, more
sustainable future: energy conservation, green technology, climate
change awareness and preparedness, green businesses and buildings, and
the like. Promote public education, community events, and political
activism in support of these ends. Engage all levels, interests, and
ages in our community.
- Group will meet again later, when there is a lull in activity
8) War
- Should we get someone from Iran to speak?
- Delegates (Peace Action) have been there
- Paddy will attempt to get dates for September
9) Restore the Soul of America (RSA)
- Paddy and Dave are initiating a program to draw attention to our
country's loss of a moral compass
- Program would involve (i) letter writing campaign by citizens and (ii)
continuous presence at legislators' offices, if appropriate
- Three main points are pre-emptive war (Iraq, Iran) and Big Money in
government.
- Wants to be connected with CfD website.
- CfD members in attendance expressed support and encouragement;
- Paddy and Dave will see if Walter can give them space on the CfD website
10) Cheney Protest- Utica Hotel July 14
- Cheney raised $200,000 for Ray Meier
- 350?? people at protest
11) Election Campaign/petitioning
- Jonathan Tasini – received enough signatures
- 62% of Democrats think Iraq is a major issue
- 13% said they’d vote for him in the primaries
12) Grand and Glorious Garage Sale
- Saturday September 9, downtown Oneonta
- We will need volunteers to staff a table
- $25 a table- we will reserve a table
