Taking Action

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
                                                               - attributed to Margaret Mead

Political Activism.

Members of our group have written letters to the editor, signed petitions, developed and mailed petitions, phoned and written our congressional representatives, and met with our congressional representatives to express our concerns.

See Kirsten Gillebrand's response to Ed Lentz in her letter of July 19, 2007.

See the report of a meeting with congressman Michael Arcuri's staff on April 25, 2007.

See our letters to congressional representatives Michael Arcuri and Kirsten Gillibrand where we urge them to take action on:

- Iraq and preemptive wars
- Healthcare
- Energy and the environment
- Election reform
- Accountability of Bush current administration

See how you can GET INVOLVED in the effort to stop the war in Iraq and keep our country from invading Iran.

Impeachment Action. Meetings and petitions on both the local and national level have begun to urge the impeachment of the president for misleading us into an invasion and occupation, loss of civil liberties, and other abuses of power.

Stop the War. March, 2007. The Iraq/Iran Work Group developed a petition and several members are gathering signatures and faxing them to our congressional representatives. Click here for a draft letter to Michael Arcuri that may be used to accompany the petitions. (The petitions urge immediate withdrawal of our troops from Iraq and action to avoid any attack on Iran. See the draft letter to Arcuri for the exact text of the petition.)

Energy Action. December 2006: See the Report from Colleen Blacklock on recent and ongoing energy-related activities in our area.
